Innovative approaches to social sustainability in Würzburg!

Würzburg, Deutschland - On December 10, 2024, an expert workshop on the subject of "Social Sustainability in Quartets" took place at the Würzburg environmental station, led by Prof. Dr. Dieter Kulke from the Technical University of Würzburg-Schweinfurt. As part of the “Circular Greensimcity” project, the districts of Grombühl and Asperg are actively involved in Baden-Württemberg. Prof. Kulke explained that sustainability should be thought beyond the classic three pillars of ecology, economy and social affairs, and emphasized the importance of functioning ecosystems for social relationships and economic action, as reported by IDW-online.de

A central result of the workshop was the development of two projects to promote social sustainability. A district newspaper called "Sanderschau" was launched in a practice -oriented project with students of social work to strengthen identification with the district. In addition, in cooperation with the Sanderau district council, the city of Würzburg created a participatory platform for the further development of the district. This platform aims to strengthen social cohesion and promote opportunities for meeting in public spaces. Prof. Kulke emphasized that social work plays a crucial role in promoting social sustainability.

climate protection as a priority

In parallel to these initiatives, the city of Würzburg pursued ambitious plans to achieve climate neutrality by 2040. As early as 2019, the city council decided to have a comprehensive climate protection concept that met the healed participation processes and specialist workshops. On January 20, 2022, the concept was officially adopted, with the aim of at least having to halve the final energy requirement by 2045. A package of measures with 94 action orders outlines the essential areas in which greenhouse gas emissions are to be reduced, as in the current article by wuerzburg.de

The city administration itself will become climate -neutral by 2028 and thus acts as a model for the citizens. In order to accelerate the implementation of the long -term goal of climate neutrality, the city administration will develop further proposals in the next two years, with the clear goal of mastering the challenges of the climate crisis together.
