Flood disaster in Hartberg: fire brigade in continuous use!
huts and streets in the districts of Hartberg-Fürstenfeld and Oberwart were immeasurably damaged in June 2024 by a devastating flood. On the evening of June 8th, a heavy rain broke out across the region, which led to massive flooding within a very short time. In particular, the Lafnitz, the Lungitzbach and numerous other waters increased dramatically, which led to hundreds of emergency calls and a hectic use of the volunteer fire brigades. The most affected areas are located in the north between Schäffern and Pinggau and along the Burgenland border, where the water masses unequivocally left their trace of destruction, such as ff-grafendorf reported.
The volunteer fire brigades in the region provided tireless efforts and mobilized to support. There were dramatic scenes in the market town of Grafendorf, when basement had to be pumped out and cars were torn away from floods. Hang slips and flooded streets also significantly disabled the rescue work. Despite the adverse circumstances, the fire brigades did everything possible to ward off the dangers of people in this crisis situation.
help for the fire brigade
On the occasion of the catastrophic event, local organizations such as the Rotary Club Oberwart-Hartberg showed solidarity and support. The Rotary Club announced EUR 3,000 each for the district in order to support the fire brigade associations in the replacement of necessary equipment, which honors the tireless use of the helpers, as Fireworld reported. The funds should help support the first responders in their important work after the devastation required comprehensive removal and restoration.
