Fabian from Peitz: A fate is fighting for school leaving certificate!
The 17-year-old Fabian from Peitz faces a major challenge: he not only fights against the late consequences of a brain tumor, which he survived in childhood, but also strives for his middle school. Fabian, who is currently visiting the 10th grade, has been suffering from right -wing paralysis, epilepsy and concentration problems since his diagnosis at the age of seven.
In order to be able to maintain the personnel support that is due to an integration assistant, his father, Detlef Starke, launched a call for donations. The goal of the fundraiser is the sum of 15,000 euros, since the financial support from the social welfare office will be omitted after April 11, 2024. The family is forced to regularly ask the social welfare office for help to cover the necessary costs.
background to Fabian's disease
The fabulous history of Fabian also includes intensive medical treatment: As part of his therapy, he received radio and chemotherapy for 457 days after a horn-size tumor was successfully removed. The radiation of his spine led to small growth, which also reinforces the challenges for him and his family.
According to information on the cost of costs for integration helpers, the situation for students with epilepsy and additional disabilities is not unusual. About three quarters of all epilepsy patients live seizure-free thanks to medication treatment, but special social benefits can be used for additional impairments. However, a regional court decided that the responsibility for the costs for integration assistants, especially if they take on educational tasks, lies with the social welfare agency and not exclusively with schools that are only responsible for the core area of pedagogical work, such as epiaktuell reported.
