Successful conference of registrars: Lienz in focus!

From April 8th to 9th, 2025, the 14th state conference of the Tyrolean registrar took place at the Institute for Health Education in Lienz. Organized by the registry office Lienz under the direction of Sabine Istenich, the event attracted over 70 participants. Mayor Elisabeth Blanik, who also acts as an association chairwoman, welcomed those present and emphasized the importance of specialist powers such as conscientiousness, precise work, a sense of people and flexibility. These characteristics are of great importance for the registrar because they support citizens in a wide variety of living situations.

At the conference, representatives of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the Federal Office for Foreign Affairs and Asylum and the State of Tyrol were also present. They gave technical lectures on innovations in civil status that are of particular relevance in the context of the latest migration movements. The increasing diversity of the population brings with it expanded tasks for the registry offices, which are regarded as the business cards of the communities and accompany citizens from birth to death.

The topics of the specialist lectures included the significant changes in civil status, whereby the Federal Office for Foreign Affairs and Asylum was highlighted as an important partner of the registry offices. In order to promote the exchange of experiences, a dinner together took place in the old town hotel Eck, which was perceived by the participants. On the second day of the event, various other topics were dealt with that are important for the daily practice of registrars.

A central aspect of the profession is the personal responsibility of the registrar, which is anchored in the civil status law. They are documented officers in the local government and are not subject to specialist instructions from superiors; Instructions for the processing of civil status cases can only be given by the civil authority or court instances. This enables you to flexibility and independence, which is of great importance in the administration.

Integration and services

The registrars also make an important contribution to the integration of foreign fellow citizens by offering services for up to 100 nations per year. Their tasks include the certification of paternity acknowledgment, declarations of name, adoptions, divorces and follow -up of events abroad. In order to cope with these tasks efficiently, the registry offices use modern information technology and offer documents for documents via various communication channels.

The reform of civil status in 2009 led to the introduction of electronic civil status registers, which made the work of the registrars considerably easier. Intensive training and further education offers organized by the state specialist associations support the registrars in their development. These offers include a two -week course and at least three months of practical experience in the registry office to ensure comprehensive training.
