Volunteering in Halle: Uwe Willamowski inspires with wit and commitment!
Halle, Deutschland - Halle (Saale) - an evening full of heroes! In the Ulrichskirche, hundreds of volunteers gathered on Thursday evening to be honored for their tireless efforts. Among them was Uwe Willamowski, a quick -witted wheelchair user who had the laugh on his side with a humorous comment on the accessibility of the mulled wine. "The mulled wine is not barrier -free. At least not, the more you drink from it," he joked while at the same time pointing to the grievances that affect people with disabilities, such as the defective elevator in the Rathof.
A total of 447 committed citizens were awarded the volunteer card, which will give them the opportunity to enjoy the diverse offers of Halles in the coming year - from ice hockey to football to concerts. Enrico Schönewolf from the volunteer agency is one of the many who work for others. He helps seniors to find their way around the digital world and shows them how they can book online tickets. "The demand is high, but many courses are in the morning, which is a challenge for working people," explains Schönewolf, who also works on the AOK.
challenges for volunteering
The management team member Karen Leonhardt sees the future of volunteering challenges. "The diversity of offer increases, but many clubs fight to handle the work," she says. At least three people are necessary to keep an association and find volunteers, is often difficult. Mayor Egbert Geier emphasizes the importance of volunteering for society: "Without volunteering, we would be a standstill society." His challenger Alexander Vogt agrees: "The volunteers not only enrich the city, they are indispensable for the cohesion of our society."
