Caritas project Kisa: Free advice for Graz parents in kindergarten!

In Styria, the Caritas pilot project "Kindergarten Social Work" (KISA) has successfully carried out over 370 consultations for parents since its introduction in November. At 19 locations in Graz, three social workers offer support and orientation for questions about education, support needs and health and psychological challenges. Caritas director Nora Tödtling-Musenbichler emphasizes: "It is about offering help and advice at an early stage before problems arise." This valuable initiative is financed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Mega Education Foundation and is to be scientifically evaluated by July 2026 in order to demonstrate effectiveness. In the long term, it is planned to establish Kisa as a permanent offer in all Styrian kindergartens, which is considered a "strong lever for more educational justice", says Friedrich Mayer, head of Caritas' school and kindergarten social work. Parents' cafes are also on the program to promote exchange about everyday difficulties, such as Kathpress reported.

new solutions for overwhelming

In view of the challenges that many children look for in kindergartens and schools, the project “Value Community for the Child” in Graz is the latest example of innovative approaches in social work. This project is based on the "Marte Meo" concept, in which parents and educators are brought together to optimally support children. Marte Meo therapists film interactions and give targeted feedback to provide help for the further development of the children. It is important that nobody is left alone, but everyone involved pulls together in a “community of responsibility”. There is no age restriction for participation in this program - the earlier parents and supervisors work together, the better, so graz.at .
