Asylum seekers in action: non -profit work or harassment?
Asylum seekers in action: non -profit work or harassment?
In Saxony-Anhalt, numerous asylum seekers were obliged to work on non-profit work this year. This measure has achieved different results in the different counties, as a survey by the German Press Agency showed. While the Burgenlandkreis and the Harz district were able to come up with positive experiences, other regions hesitated to introduce mandatory work assignments because they considered the associated effort as too high. In some circles, asylum seekers were only committed to activities, and the city of Halle relies on voluntariness to promote integration, such as Welt reported.
First experiences and consequences
in the Burgenlandkreis, where 96 asylum seekers were assigned to job opportunities, District Administrator Götz Ulrich is optimistic. The activities range from garden maintenance to cleaning public institutions. The reward of 80 cents per hour comes in addition to the regular social benefits, and the district administrator emphasizes that these initiatives are intended as support and not as chicane. Nevertheless, there was also resistance: 32 people rejected their job offers, which led to financial sanctions - a person only received 183 euros per month instead of 331 euros. In the Saale-Orla district, too, a positive implementation of these measures is reported, although only a small part of the asylum seekers actively participate in the program, such as notes.
The frequent discussions about the expediency and acceptance of these measures reflect exciting changes in dealing with asylum seekers in Germany. Parts of the population have reacted positively to the commitment of asylum seekers because they make valuable contributions to the community. A central component of the programs are also language courses that should help the migrants to better integrate into society.
