Attack on freedom of the press: FPÖ boss Nepp causes excitement

An unprecedented attack on freedom of the press in Austria has heated the minds. The Vienna FPÖ party chairman Dominik Nepp said on the platform X that the daily newspaper "The Standard" was a "Sch ... sheet" and that he is looking forward to the end of this newspaper. This unmistakable threat caused outrage among journalists: inside and trade unionists. Barbara Teiber, chair of the GPA, and Ute Groß, chairwoman of the journalist: Inner union in the GPA, asked the democratic public to defend themselves against such attacks. In particular, the ÖVP, which is currently in coalition negotiations with the FPÖ, is asked to position itself clearly and to take these threats seriously, as on ots.at is reported.

"If journalist: inside and media that do their work, are openly threatened by top representatives of political parties, then all alarm bells are shrill," said Teiber and large. The GPA union is firmly behind the college: inside, which are faced with intimidation attempts. In view of these worrying developments, the GPA is of crucial importance to strengthen and defend the political work and the advocacy representation of its members. The Federal Forum plays a central role in this, which re-evaluates and adapts the political strategies and the development of the trade union organization, as on gpa.at

The Federal Forum, the highest organ of the GPA, ensures that all members are involved in the further development of the union in an open and democratic structure. A clear political positioning and the development of countermeasures against such attacks on freedom of the press are essential in order to maintain the interests of employees and media representatives.
