Low German rediscovered: Learn playfully with the Beo app!
A new highlight has announced itself in the world of languages: The free language learning app "Platt with Beo" is now available and enables users to playfully learn the Low German language. Developed over a period of three years through the competence center for Low German didactics at the University of Greifswald and supported by various Lower Saxony landscape associations, the app brings interactive exercises and extensive audio recordings directly to your smartphone. With a digital beo-bird as a mascot that accompanies the learning of the language humorously, this approach becomes particularly clear-the Beo-Vogel is a language gifted, endangered bird, which is a deep symbolism for the rescue of the Low German language, as the NDR-WEBSITE reported.
The app is available on Android and iOS and offers more than 4,000 audio recordings that have been discussed by professional speakers. Users can choose between different regional variants of Low German, making learning even more authentic. The concept includes ten everyday lessons that cover complex topics such as purchasing, travel and communication with doctors. The aim is to improve your own understanding of reading and listening, writing and pronunciation. The reporting of Stadt-Bremerhaven emphasizes that the app is not only intended for north Germans, but also for those who want to understand the north German identity better.
With the introduction of the "Platt with Beo" app, valuable support for all those willing to learn is created. Access to the app is also possible offline, which enables flexible learning and promotes the learning of the Low German language through various interactive elements. The initiators have placed great emphasis on authentic content and regional differentiation in order to ensure a high level of learning quality and to keep the Low German language alive.
