Part -time boom in Austria: More and more workers in atypical jobs!
In the past ten years, the world of work in Austria has changed dramatically: the number of atypical employment relationships has increased by impressive 26.6 %, reports 5min.at . In 2023, 36.7 % of the employed part -time workers worked, temporary, minor or temporary employment relationships - an increase of 30.9 % in part -time employment alone. The gender difference is particularly striking: While 55.5 % of women employed work in such atypical conditions, it is only 19.0 % for men. This development also means that the proportion of classic full -time work has dropped to 63.3 %.

Family -related part -time employment is particularly widespread in women. 22.8 % of employed people worked part -time due to support tasks - a reason that is only called 8.2 % in men. Many men, on the other hand, go part-time to take part in training or further training (23.6 %). The development of these employment relationships illustrates the need for adaptable work models that meet both the needs of the employees and the requirements of the modern labor market.
