Equality in a descent: Austria's women fight for income!

The new Minister of Women Eva Maria Holzleitner (SPÖ) presented a courageous plan for women's policy, which will be paid to special attention on March 8 on the occasion of International Women's Day. The aim is to promote violence, financial independence and the same opportunities for women in the world of work. Martina Gabriel, the women's and equal opportunities officer of the State of Carinthia, emphasizes that existing inequalities continue to exist, despite small progress in equality. "Women still do a large part of unpaid care work," explains Gabriel, and demands that men are also more involved in this area in order to achieve a real change. "It is not possible for women to bear the burden of family responsibility alone," she added.

important developments in equality

A central point of the discussion is the equal point day. Gabriel points out that this day draws attention to the unjust wage situation: women work partially "free" because their remuneration is behind the men. This is not only a sign of existing discrimination, but also has long -term consequences for women's pension. According to the Chamber of Labor, Austria only achieves a total of 49 out of 100 possible points in relation to gender equality. The score of income is particularly alarming, where women only achieve 19 points on average, which makes it clear how big the gap is.

Another critical area is childcare. In Austria, only 0.7 percent of economic output is invested in the care facilities, which is very low in international comparison. This means that many women have to give up their job because they do not find any childcare places for their children. In order to make real progress, the Chamber of Labor demands that Austria will invest at least one percent of its economic performance in improving childcare - for a future with more equality, as is already the case in countries like Finland and Sweden.
