Health reform in the end? Lehner warns of the system crisis!

Österreich - In the Austrian health debate, Peter Lehner now speaks up, the chairman of the social security of the self -employed (SVS). He criticizes the existing system and emphasizes that it is time to carry out basic cuts in health services. "We should not expect our health system to work like a fully equipped Mercedes," said Lehner, thereby questioning the need to revise the claims. The framework of the health system is clearly outlined by law, so that medical treatment is designed for basic care, but should not go beyond the measure of what is necessary. These views were also discussed in a current interview with the courier.

requirement for a rethink in the health system

Lehner is worried about the increasing dissatisfaction of the population with the current health offer and sees the cause in a social departure from personal responsibility and health literacy. "We have to attribute the use of services to a necessary level," he demands. Overuse of the system would overload, which has a negative impact on the quality of care. The outgoing Minister of Health Johannes Rauch also receives criticism from Lehner: He criticizes that decisive measures to improve performance were not coordinated with the system partners.

The discussion about the lack of country doctors is also initiated. The Federal Government presented plans for premiums to fill these places, which Lehner considers inadequate. He emphasizes that the problems in the health system cannot be solved by unique financial incentives, but that fundamental flexibility of the working conditions of the doctors is necessary. The disproportionate distribution of the costs - 7.65 billion euros for hospitals compared to 6.4 billion euros for medical services - shows that a reform is urgently necessary to ensure equal distribution of financial resources. Lehner has the clear impression that a specialization and transparency within the system are required for a targeted improvement in the quality of care, as was emphasized in conversation with the courier.

The discussion revolves around far -reaching questions: How can patient control be designed more efficiently? Lehner is convinced that one has to get away from the "fully casualty". People should learn to use health services more consciously and more responsibly, without exaggerating effort that is often not necessary. "Social insurance works according to the solidarity principle - and everyone should have that in the head," said Lehner.

The challenges that Austrian health policy faces are complex and require a rethink of everyone involved. In order to achieve sustainable improvements, a clear strategy is required that focuses on the needs of the population, but at the same time realistically looks at the resources and possibilities of the health system.

Kleine Zeitung reported and The KURIER analyzed the current situation in the health system intensively.
