Construction work in Lieserschlucht: The bike path of the future is now starting!

A large construction site for a bike path today, on February 10, gave its official starting shot! The B99 by the Lieser Gorge is completely closed to traffic for about four months. This spring, construction work begins, which are divided into several stages and are not to be completed until 2028. In the first year of construction, a route of approx. 700 to 800 meters is built. The construction work begins at Spittal an der Drau, where special cantilever plates are built that protrude beyond the Lieser River. This planning is considered to be technically extremely challenging and therefore required a sophisticated schedule in order to take into account the expectations of the residents as possible, such as meinbezirk.at reported.

closures and diversions

The entire region must adjust to a total lock of the Lieserschlucht by the end of May, although the road will be partially accessible again from June, but only towards Seeboden. During the work, car traffic is diverted via Trebesinger Straße (L10). For trucks with trailers and heavy vehicles as well as cyclists, a driving ban on the Fratres, the mountain north of Spittal, applies. These measures require comprehensive planning, which was carefully developed by traffic planners and authorities in order to disturb the traffic as little as possible as orf.at

The implementation of the cycle path remains particularly challenging due to the demanding conditions of the gorge. Countless technical challenges have to be mastered in order to offer the cyclists a safe and comfortable route. After all, this bike connection has been challenged for decades, and with a little patience, the residents can hope for a unique bike path through the Lieserschlucht.
