A23 night construction sites: Favoriten exit closed for five months!
A comprehensive renovation will soon begin on the A23 Südosttangente in Vienna, which will result in far-reaching changes to traffic. From July 29, 2025, construction work will be carried out on the retaining walls and ramps between the Laaer Berg Tunnel and the Absberg Tunnel at night between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. The Favoriten motorway exit in the direction of Kaisermühlen will be closed for two weeks during this time, which could cause longer travel times and disruptions for drivers. This reports oe24.at.
The renovation includes the reconstruction of the retaining wall in the direction of Altmannsdorf after a two-week demolition phase. Similar work has already been successfully completed in the direction of Kaisermühlen. The reconstruction includes a new protective shell and a concrete top finish to ensure the stability of the wall.
Night construction sites and traffic adjustments
In order to take into account traffic during the day, work takes place mainly at night during the week. However, from July 21, all lanes will be maintained during the day. At night there is still a narrowing of traffic to one lane. The ramps on the A23 will also receive a new road surface and modern LED lighting, which should increase traffic safety.
The renovation work on a total of three retaining walls is scheduled to continue until the end of 2024, with work in the opposite direction beginning in 2025. The construction work is scheduled to be completed in December 2025, which will result in a long-term redesign of the highway. Drivers should prepare for changing traffic conditions and use appropriate information, for example via the ADAC Maps, which displays current traffic flows and construction sites.
The night-time work is intended to achieve efficient renovation without unduly disrupting daily traffic. Motorists who are traveling during the affected times should be prepared for significantly reduced lanes and a closed driveway in the direction of Kaisermühlen.
