Tesla in sight: NHTSA examines 2.6 million vehicles after accidents!
The US transport security authority NHTSA has initiated an investigation against around 2.6 million Tesla vehicles. The reason is reports of several accidents that are connected to the new "Actually Smart Summon" function. According to NHTSA, the vehicles would not have recognized posts and parked cars despite the active use of the app, which led to dangerous collisions. The authority not only checks the accidents itself, but also the top speed that can be achieved with this technology, and the safety requirements that apply when driving on public roads, such as OE24 reported.
The "Actually Smart Summon" function enables drivers to move their vehicles to a specific location via a smartphone app, a system that has been available since September 2025. In an explanation, the NHTSA expressed that it is aware of several complaints about accidents with the function in which the users had too little response time to avoid a crash. Instead, this accidents were not reported by Tesla itself, although this is mandatory for automated driving assistance systems on public roads. As The second official investigation by the NHTSA in less than six months after an investigation had been initiated by similar incidents with the partially automatic driving assistance system from Tesla.
