Brothers debut in the national team: Suljanovic duo dreams of success!

Schwechat, Österreich - On February 22, 2025, an exciting day for Austrian basketball is! The national team starts today, Thursday at 7:15 p.m. against Armenia in the pre-qualification for the basketball World Cup 2027. A special highlight: for the first time, the brothers Omer and Imran Suljanovic are standing by side in the national team. The almost 19-year-old Omer and his brother Imran, who was one year younger, managed to achieve something that has not happened since the 1990s-three pairs of brothers played in a double pack for Rotweißrot at the time. The sports director of Basketball-Austria, Aldin Saracevic, is enthusiastic about the two talents who signed in 2022 at the Italian Serie-A-Club Pallacanestro Reggiana. Omer has even gained experience in the professional team.

The return of the brothers

The Suljanovic brothers impressively demonstrated in their daily training in Italy that they are hopes of Austrian basketball. They train twice a day and often stay in the hall for hours to further perfect their skills. "Having a brother who always pushes you and with whom you can work on your game is a great advantage," says Omer proudly, while Imran emphasizes the importance of the support of her father Ramiz, who once coached at the Vienna Timberwolves and even played for the Bosnian national team. The brothers were happy that they can now realize their childhood dreams as part of the national team.
The last U18 European Championship has brought them a lot of attention, and they now also dream of a college career while enjoying the atmosphere in Italy. "The people here are absolutely crazy about basketball," explains Imran with enthusiasm.

On Sunday at 4 p.m. another emotional event will take place for the brothers if you debut against Albania in the Multiversum Schwechat. Omer says: "It's fantastic to play with my brother. It reminds us of our childhood." The enormous anticipation for their international match reflects the enthusiasm that the Suljanovics trigger not only in Italy, but also in their homeland at the basketball fans.
