Anna Gasser disappointed: No medal in the Big Air of the World Cup!

The Snowboard World Championships 2025 in Engadin have taken a disappointing course for the Austrian athlete Anna Gasser. The 33-year-old Carinthian put great expectations in her participation in the Big Air final, but had to leave the competition without a medal. Gasser, who went into the competition as a two-time Olympic champion and defending champion, ended the final in sixth place and thus missed the defense of her World Cup title from 2023.

In the course of the competition, Gasser fell both her first and her last jump. Despite these setbacks, she achieved the best evaluation of the entire final with her second jump - sensational 88.00 points. In total, she came up to 112.50 points, which was not sufficient for a placement on the podium. While Gasser fought for medals, Japan showed an impressive dominance and won five of the six possible medals in this competition.

Japan convinces in the Big Air

The Gold Medal secured the Japanese Kokomo Murase, followed by Reira Iwabuchi, who won the silver medal, and Mari Fukada won the bronze. Momo Suzuki rounded off the successful Japanese team with a fourth place. Another damper for the final came from the severe fall of the qualification winner Zoi Sadowski Synnott, which could therefore not take part in the final. German Annika Morgan also remained excluded from participation.

The Japanese athletes also achieved outstanding achievements as part of the men's competition. Ryoma Kimata got the gold while defending champion Taiga Hasegawa won the silver medal. The American Oliver Martin secured third place.

A look at the history of the Snowboard World Championships

The Snowboard World Championships are an important sporting event to determine the best athletes in this area. These championships have been held since 1985 and have developed over the years. From 1993 the first official world championships under the International Snowboarding Federation (ISF) took place, while FIS began to hold their own World Championships in 1996

After the dissolution of the ISF in 1999, FIS took responsibility for the World Championships. Since 2012, the World Snowboarding Federation has been organizing its own world championships every fourth year, which differ in the qualification from the FIS competitions. This year the event was again held in connection with the Freestyle Skiing World Championships, which further increases the importance of the Snowboard World Championships.

With her return from the Engadine, Gasser will have to analyze how she can do better in future competitions. Even if she left empty this year, her impressive record of two golden and a silver medal remains in the past world championships. The journey to even more takes place is still on your agenda, while the upcoming World Championships are focused on.
