Humanitarian catastrophe in Myanmar: 41 deaths in brutal attack!
In Myanmar, a devastating air raid from the military government triggered a tragedy in the village on the island of Ramree, in which at least 41 people were killed and 52 others were injured. This was reported by a member of the local rescue workers, while the military government initially did not respond to inquiries after a statement. The situation in Myanmar has been tense since the 2021 military coup, which the government fell under Peace Nobel Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi. In the Rakhine region, a bloody conflict is raging between the Arakan Army, which is fighting for more autonomy, and the military government of a country, which is increasingly shaped by chaos, such as Times reported.
Humanitarian crisis in Rakhine
in Rakhine, the country continues to drift into a humanitarian catastrophe, while the Arakan Army apparently takes control of ever larger areas. The fights have led to massive displacements for over a year, with more than half a million people, including ethnic rakhine and Rohingya. The military Junta has targeted air strikes and bombing against civil settlements, which further exacerbates the humanitarian situation. The UN has warned that Rakhine runs the risk of falling into a far -reaching famine, whereby up to two million people are threatened with hunger.
Current pictures from Sittwe, the capital of Rakhine, show empty roads, while people flee to the south. Humanitarian aid is severely restricted due to conflicts and blockages. An assessment of the United Nations shows that of over 76,000 internally displaced people in Sittwe only received around 10,600 help. The location is also complicated by the continued fighting and the destruction of auxiliary facilities, which were already added to the consequences of the Mocha cyclons in May 2023. Therefore, international help is desperately needed and time is running, while the conflict in Rakhine and the associated challenges will only increase.
