Heidelberg Zoo: Berberlöwe Nouri conquers the hearts of the visitors!

Heidelberg, Deutschland - A new star sees the light of the world in the Heidelberg Zoo! The little Berberlöwe "Nouri", which means "the shining", was born at the end of August and has already conquered the hearts of the visitors in the storm. In his first veterinary examination, the little hangover was very healthy and clean, as the nursing team proudly reports.

"The little one is in top shape and develops great," explains Zoo veterinarian Dr. Barbara Bach. But the first examination was an exciting matter for the little lion. District manager Bianca Weißbarth and Dr. Bach made sure that Nouri could quickly return to his mother. With a weight of around seven kilograms and a complete health check, the small lion was a real "quick starter". After only four days he opened his eyes, explored his enclosure and soon ventured to his first piece of meat!

The small lion family grows together! Löwenmama Binta takes care of her offspring and cleans him thoroughly after the exciting examination. After a portion of milk, the two are outside again to spend time with the patient father Chalid. "The small lion family has grown together for a real pack in the past few weeks," says Bianca Weißbarth.

A special strategy of the ZooTeam allows the big cats to decide for themselves when they come together as a family. This decision has proven itself: Binta is looking for closeness to Calid, while Nouri happily gymnastics on his father's back without chalid complaining about it. Visitors can watch these magical moments from different perspectives.

Nouri will stay in the Heidelberg Zoo for at least two years before deciding whether to move to another zoo. The little lion is not only a crowd favorite, but also plays an important role in the protection of species of the rare Berber lions, which are almost extinct in their homeland in North Africa. A radiant example of hope and preservation of biodiversity!
