In a spectacular police operation, a suspected motor vehicle smuggler was arrested on the B 310 in Leopoldschlag on November 29, 2024. Leopoldschlag police officers carried out a Schengen check on a 57-year-old man who was driving a Spanish motorhome. He did not have any rental agreement for the vehicle, which strengthened the suspicion that the vehicle had been moved to the East. The man identified himself with a Belarusian passport, a Polish residence permit and a Polish driver's license and gave contradictory information about his identity, which made investigators sit up and take notice. During further research, two people behind the attack were identified: a Romanian citizen with a false identity and another suspected accomplice from Russia, whose information also appears to be false. The MyDistrict reported that after the arrest, the legal owner of the vehicle wanted to file a complaint in Spain, while the man was taken to the Linz prison.
