Fußi raises the alarm: 46,728 signatures for SPÖ chairman election!
Rudolf Fußi sparked power struggle in the SPÖ
Rudolf Fußi, who appears as a Rebell within the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ), has announced ambitious plans to take over the chair. With the claim that he has collected over 46,000 signatures, he wants to force a new election of the party chair. Fußi, who had already announced at the end of January that he needed the necessary 14,000 signatures of members of the SPÖ to compete against the current chairman Andreas Babler, now surpasses his expectations and speaks of a real wave of support from the social democratic voters, as well as Oe24.at reported.
The signatures are to be handed over to the party headquarters in Löwelstrasse on January 5, 2025 in order to initiate the formal exam. Fußi criticizes the current party leadership, describes the SPÖ as "financially bankrupt and eaten up by corruption". He also plans to send the "new Reds" into the race as the top candidate at the upcoming National Council and Vienna state elections. In a further step, Fußi calls for immediate review of the signatures by the party. If he came to the head of the SPÖ, he threatens to change the entire power structure within the party, and already calls for the resignation of prominent party friends such as the Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig, so Exxpress.at .
the SPÖ under pressure
Although the SPÖ has so far remained calm under the leadership of Babler and he emphasizes that it is "not closer to Fußi", the pressure on the party grows. Fußi sees itself as a mouthpiece for dissatisfaction within the SPÖ and indicates that even a possibly failed takeover of the chair would send a clear message to the party. The signatures could represent a strong signal against Baler's politics, which many perceived as left by many. Fußis influence and the need for a party reform seem to be gradually becoming unmistakable. The outcome of this conflict could have far -reaching consequences for the future of the SPÖ.
