Revitalization of Outer Mariahilfer Strasse: ÖVP creates new perspectives
An initiative is being worked on in Vienna that aims to strengthen the local economy and make certain parts of the city more lively. This measure proposed by the ÖVP focuses in particular on Outer Mariahilfer Straße. The motion, which was unanimously accepted by the district council, promises to bring the “Grätzlinitiative” of the City of Vienna and the business agency to the 15th district.
The initiative is intended to promote local businesses, reduce vacancies in the area and overall make the environment more attractive. District party chairman Felix Ofner (ÖVP) makes it clear that the renovation alone will not be enough to exploit the full potential of Outer Mariahilfer Strasse. Rather, targeted investments and local support are necessary to awaken this area from its “sleeping beauty” sleep.
A look at Ottakring
Ofner cites Ottakring as an example, where significant successes were achieved through funding of up to 10,000 euros for small businesses. The vacancy rate near the Ottakringer brewery was reduced by 20 percent. “There is a lot of potential for improvement, especially on Outer Mariahilfer Strasse, which we should definitely take advantage of,” Ofner continued. He points to the accumulation of rubbish, graffiti and illegal posters, which significantly detract from an attractive environment.
The idea is to not only improve the economic situation through the initiative, but also to increase the quality of life of the residents. The hope is that Outer Mariahilfer Straße can return to a place for exchange and strolling, which would benefit residents and visitors alike.
Committed partnerships
The district administration has also set itself the goal of promoting economic prosperity and the creation of successful businesses in the district. District leader Dietmar Baurecht (SPÖ) emphasizes that close cooperation between the district management, business people and the city of Vienna is crucial for positive change. “We are prepared to provide financial resources to support, for example, local associations such as the entrepreneurs on Mariahilfer Straße in 15 (M15),” explains Baurecht.
A future-oriented project is the planned MaHü 15 promenade, which will extend from Schwendermarkt towards the Technical Museum. “The Schwendermarkt is becoming increasingly popular and we want to make it even more attractive,” emphasizes Baurecht and at the same time thanks all supporters from various areas.
