Margaret demands resident parking spaces: a wish of the residents
in the heart of Vienna, in the Margaret district, is bubbling among the residents - the urgent desire for resident parking spaces is getting louder. In this quarter, which is the only inner -city district without special parking spaces for residents, the shortage of parking space is increasing. More and more voices, such as those of a resident from Hamburgerstrasse, make it clear how frustrating the current situation is. A reader reports: "I am dependent on my car, especially after the Naschmarkt car park has been canceled." The overcrowding near the children's ambulatorium is also listed as a problem that a reader denounces: "You can often not find a parking space in the Siebenbrunnenfeldgasse."
The discussion about the creation of resident parking spaces is not new, but the response from the population leaves no doubt that there is a serious need. The reality is clearly shown in letters that have shared the readers of the MeinDribban platform. This gives the pressure on the local decision -makers to act.
The requirements for resident parking spaces
such as Ilona Hadasch, spokeswoman for MA 46, explained, resident parking spaces can only be created in districts in which a nationwide short parking zone exists and the use of parking space is over 90 percent. For Margareten, this means that a parking space survey and a detailed recording of the load are necessary. The district office must provide this information before the MA 46 can check the necessary steps for the introduction.
In a conversation with the district leader Silvia Janković (SPÖ), she said that she always had an open ear for the concerns of the citizens. "The balance between the different forms of mobility is important," she emphasizes. In Margareten there are various demands on public space. In addition to the parking spaces, green areas as well as cycling and footpaths also have to be taken into account. Janković takes a stand on the sensitive parking situation, especially around the Naschmarkt car park: "I am in constant exchange with the MA46 to find solutions."
, however, quickly becomes clear that the introduction of resident parking spaces is currently not so easy. The necessary traffic count cannot be carried out in the near future due to ongoing underground construction work. "Resilient data must first be collected," adds the district manager. The topic remains an open one, and Janković promises that it will continue to be pursued as soon as the circumstances allow it.
In addition, it emphasizes that the expansion of the public transport network and improvements in the cycling infrastructure are also important. Local parking spaces could be relieved, but do not guarantee a parking space just around the corner. Janković understands the needs of many who are dependent on their car and is committed to ensuring that parking space printing is kept low for larger activities, such as construction sites or film projects.
The inquiries from the citizens show that the discussion about residential parking spaces in Margareten does not tear off. The government representative's demands to find a combination of improving public transport and consideration of residents could ultimately serve as a solution at the time that is tense in terms of traffic.
