Incredible Achievements at 3-Country Marathon: New Course Record by Helen Bekele!
Last weekend the 3-country marathon took place on Lake Constance and had a record number of participants. Over 12,000 runners took part in the marathon, resulting in a record number of participants. Despite the large number of runners, the event ran smoothly, as confirmed by the organizers. The performance of the Swiss Helen Bekele, who set a new course record for women, was particularly impressive.
The marathon not only attracted many participants, but also showed tremendous growth this year. With an increase of 50 percent compared to the previous year, in the marathon distance alone, there was a significant increase in runners. The OC boss Robert Küng sees great potential for the future, but also emphasizes the importance of maintaining the current record numbers.
With over 1,500 runners reaching the finish, the 3-country marathon positioned itself as the second largest marathon in Austria after Vienna. In addition, more than 3,000 children took part in the children's marathon, which underlines the diversity and willingness to participate in this event.
Particularly notable was Helen Bekele's top performance as she broke the women's course record with a time of 2:26:08. Despite adverse weather conditions, Bekele was pleased with her success and emphasized the challenges the race presented.
These impressive achievements make the 3-country marathon an outstanding event for runners from all over the world who compete on Lake Constance. Further details about the marathon can be found at vorarlberg.orf.at.
