Austria's handball women start with full strength to the EHF Euro 2024
In a month the time has finally come: On November 28th, the Women’s EHF Euro 2024 begins in Innsbruck, where the Austrian Handball women's national team meets Slovakia. This event will be held in cooperation with Hungary and Switzerland, with Innsbruck taking over the main part with two preliminary round groups and the final weekend in Vienna.
In the run -up to the tournament, team boss Monique Tijsterman took the time to analyze the progress of the team and to discuss the preparations. "A month is a short period of time, but we make good progress," said Tijsterman. Last week they would have taken some important steps forward during training and the last games and plans to use the last training course intensively.preparation and team dynamics
When asked where she still sees construction sites, Tijsterman replied: "There are basically little things. We are working on the coordination between the players. The last games, especially against the Czech Republic and Ukraine, were subjected to an in -depth analysis to develop a strategy against the upcoming opponents - including Slovakia, Norway and Slovenia.
"We take a closer look at how they act in attack and defense and are looking for solutions," she said. After the last course there was a positive balance: Tijsterman was satisfied with the performance of the entire team and the supervisor. "We worked hard and prepared ourselves well for the euro," said her assessment.
The team has developed since the takeover of the management in February, even if the new playing style presented itself as challenging. "The players have adapted well to my expectations and I see significant progress," said the team leader. After the important victories over Northern Macedonia, the Czech Republic and Ukraine, she is optimistic about achieving the goals set at home euro: "We have to believe in our strengths, otherwise we would have no reason to play with the euro."
Before the big event, Austria will play against Germany again on November 24th: "It is important for us to deliver a high level in the last test game. We want to see how well the players can implement our training content."
The discontinuation of the EHF Euro 2024 is not only a big challenge for the team, but also an opportunity for the hosting countries Austria, Switzerland and Hungary to present themselves in international handball. Tickets for the games are available via the ÖHB ticket shop and the anticipation among fans is already noticeable.
