On October 30, 2025, numerous representatives of the volunteer fire departments met for an important conference in Lobmingtal, Austria. The technical committee of the Austrian Federal Fire Brigade Association (ÖBFV) discussed fundamental issues and strategic decisions that will affect over 4,000 volunteer fire departments throughout Austria. In a motivating opening speech and under the leadership of Robert Mayer, MSc, President of the ÖBFV, the course for future fire service work was set.
The subsequent program was particularly interesting, including an exclusive tour of the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. Here the fire department representatives were able to gain insights into the challenges and correspondence at major events such as Formula 1 and MotoGP. The lecture by Erwin Grangl, one of the state fire brigade councilors, discussed the need to ensure high safety standards in such situations.
Strategic decisions and security standards
The conference offered a platform for discussions that are intended to serve as an impulse for future developments in fire service work. The Styrian State Fire Brigade Association and the Knittelfeld District Fire Brigade Association warmly invited the participants, which underlines the importance of this event. Those present included prominent fire department representatives such as Robert Lottermoser, deputy state fire director, and Andreas Stürzl, section fire inspector.
Another focus was on the evening program, which also offered special highlights for the accompanying people. While the men stuck to the specialist content, the women visited the world champion confectionery Regner in Seckau, the Seckau Abbey and Edelsteine Krampl in Weißkirchen.
