In summer, the students of the Hartberg high School went on an impressive trip to Zanzibar, which was both exciting and instructive. This company was not only an adventure, but also a social contribution to supporting the local community. The religion teacher Hannes Hamilton had the idea and the students were quickly thrilled without guessing what challenges and experiences they would expect.

Zanzibar, an autonomous archipelago in front of the east coast of Africa and part of the state of Tanzania, is a fascinating place that offers a rich culture and history. The logistical preparation for the trip required time and effort - from flight tickets and visas to the necessary material for the planned projects. Finally, 30 pupils grabbed their suitcases with clothes, toys and books that were supposed to help the people on site, and went on the almost 10,000 kilometer path.

Under the title "Austria_Goes_zanzanzibar", Hannes Hamilton and his group realized on site. The highlights included the implementation of a stable climbing frame on which Lorenz, Leni, Sarah, Aaliyah and Alea worked. Despite the initial doubts, they managed to build a safe play equipment within a few days that gave the kindergarten children great pleasure.

Another highlight was the cooking of Kaiserschmarrn - a typical Austrian delicacy. Leah and Bevab Amina cooked together with their local colleagues. Here they had to overcome some hurdles, such as the not everyday kitchen equipment and getting the ingredients. But in the end, the local population enjoyed this Austrian feast for the palate, despite initial difficulties in preparing.

The renovation of the slaughterhouse on Machui College was another important project. Raphael, Tim, Clemens and Olivia helped in the basic modernization: Together with a local worker, they tore off the old roof and also prepared the windows for the redesign. With a lot of teamwork and commitment, they managed to build a new roof within a few hours and prepare the building for the upcoming cooling system.

Another part of the group devoted himself to the redesign of a kindergarten that urgently needed a paint and child -friendly decoration. In addition, the students were enabled to bring different languages ​​closer to the children. In an interactive exchange, they learned German and Swahili, which promoted communication and understanding between cultures.

The trip to Zanzibar was an unforgettable experience for the high school students, which expanded their perspectives and understanding of cultural diversity.
