Climate Conflict: This is how the parties position themselves on the future of Styria!

In an urgent appeal, the organizations of the platform climate-neutral 2040 from the upcoming Styrian state government are calling to consistently implement the 2030+ climate and energy strategy that has already been defined. In view of the acute threats to climate change, as the latest climate -related natural events show, instant deeds are essential. Severin Ettl, coordinator of the platform, urges that the ÖVP in particular should take the opportunity to promote investments in the climate -friendly future of Styria by 2040. The answers of the Styrian parties show little progress in climate policy, as the examination of Scientists for Future Styria showed. In particular, the FPÖ, which abits climate protection as 'climate communism', was sharply criticized because its attitude is not compatible with the programs of democratic parties, as Heinz Wittenbrink from the platform emphasizes.

active integration of the population

The State Government of Styria has already taken important steps as part of the climate protection community service in 2021. In order to promote climate protection, the citizen: internal participation program "Climate Dialogue" was launched. In five selected communities, strategies for the energy transition are developed together with the citizens. The State Councilor Ursula Lackner and State Councilor Hans Seitinger emphasize that the development of measures with the population is of central importance. In workshops, ideas and specific action plans are to be developed, which are then decided in the local council.

The centers of the project are the municipality of Liezen as well as the municipalities of Maria Lankowitz and Ramsau am Dachstein, under which a "Master plan Climate & Energy" is to be created to drastically reduce CO2 emissions by 2040. This process aims to strengthen the backing of the population and to gain numerous actors for climate -friendly change, as in the current discussions about a clear purchase view of the future climate policy of the Styrian state government, as is underlined by the climate -neutral 2040 platform.

More and more voices are now demanding that the new government present specific action plans for climate protection in order to secure the quality of life in Styria in the long term. Elfi Nebel from the climate talks warns to quick action: "The Kess2030+ is only a first step - now hand has to be created." Whatever is necessary to transform the promises of politics into tangible results has to go to the agenda, because according to the ETTL, the well -being of people and climate is inseparable: "Climate protection is human protection!"
