Typing campaign in Deutschlandsberg: Together for Baby Leonidas

Typing campaign in Deutschlandsberg: Together for Baby Leonidas

In a moving initiative, a typing campaign in the Federal School Center in Deutschlandsberg will be organized on Friday, November 29, to ensure the survival to the little Leonidas. In the period from 12 noon to 4:30 p.m., all healthy people between the ages of 17 and 45 have the opportunity to typify themselves as a potential stem cell donor.

Leonidas, a baby in a critical condition, urgently needs suitable stem cells to fight against its illness. In Austria, about three people develop leukemia every day, of which many children are affected. Every year, over 300 patients are dependent on the donation of healthy stem cells, often triggered by leukemia. For these patients, the chance of healing is often dependent on the availability of suitable stem cell donors.

The importance of typing

The typing itself is a simple process and takes place by a cheek smear. Unfortunately, the small number of typed people is a major problem: only around 285,000 people in Austria are currently registered, which is about three percent of the population. Statistically speaking, the likelihood of finding a compatible donor in the population is 1: 500,000. It is therefore of the utmost importance that more people can register in order to increase the chances of finding a suitable donor.

"Give for life - leukemia aid Austria" urgently calls for healthy people to report and be typed. This action could not only save Leonidas, but also numerous other patients. By meeting the population and participating in this important action, the likelihood can be increased to support Herbert, who relies on a stem cell donation and other sick people. Join this hasty movement and help to save another person's life.
