Together against loneliness: Christmas party for the needy in Enns!
The contemplative Christmas not only brings joy, but also loneliness and conflicts. In the Enns region, numerous initiatives are committed to helping those who have to spend these holidays alone. Eva Maria Hinterplattner, pastor of the parish of Enns-St. Laurenz, emphasizes: "Loneliness is particularly noticeable in the Advent and Christmas season because great expectations are connected to the festival." The parish therefore offers various events to invite people to community and confidence. For those who cannot come to church, services are organized for at home in order to give the celebrating a feeling of belonging together. Elderly care centers are also visited to celebrate together there, such as meinzirk.at
In addition to the religious offers, social interaction is also promoted. The traditional Christmas party for lonely and in need in the diocese has experienced impressive doubling of the number of visitors in the past five years, currently over 220 people. Supporters such as the Pizzeria "Da Capo" and several bakeries do excellent: the feast is prepared expertly, Christmas cookies and sweets are donated. On Christmas Eve, visitors can look forward to a banquet, followed by joint Christmas carols, as Dompfarre.info . Volunteers also ensure the loving design of the celebration and are available to the guests all day.
However, there are no conflicts, and tensions in families can be created, especially during the holidays. Michaela Scheuchenpflug from the Linz-Land women's network warns: "Civil courage is more important than ever!" It recommends that it become active in conflict situations, but always keep an eye on your own security. A simple conversation or a call can often improve togetherness and help to transform the stressful festival day into a quiet, contemplative healing process.
