Industrial recession in the Kirchdorf district: unemployment rate rises to 4.1%

In the Kirchdorf district you can clearly feel the effects of the current economic developments in Upper Austria. The region is in an industrial recession, according to economic forecasts. This is evident not only from rising unemployment figures, but also from a decline in employment in the region.

With the unemployment rate rising to 4.1 percent in September, the Public Employment Service (AMS) recorded an increase in the number of people looking for work. Günter Schmied, the head of the AMS office in Kirchdorf, reported on the situation: At the end of August, 1,078 people in the district were without a job, including 521 women and 557 men. In addition, 303 people are completing a qualification measure to improve their chances on the job market.

Decline in employees

As AMS managing director Iris Schmidt explained, the development in the district is not positive overall. Compared to the previous year, the number of employees fell by 0.9 percent. There are currently 25,109 people in employed employment. This change shows that the economic conditions are becoming more difficult. The forecast suggests that the phenomenon of basic unemployment is becoming increasingly important, especially among people whose mother tongue is not German.

Fewer vacancies

Another alarming sign is the number of job vacancies. At the end of September, the AMS Kirchdorf reported 807 open jobs, which corresponds to a decrease of 21.6 percent compared to the previous year. A similar trend can also be seen when it comes to apprenticeships: There were 105 immediately available apprenticeships, a reduction of 21.1 percent, while the number of immediately available apprenticeship seekers increased by 107.7 percent to 54. This reflects the current state of the labor market.

The situation poses challenges for many people in the region as companies continue to restructure their workforces. However, the positive approaches through qualification measures could help to ease the situation somewhat and offer people new perspectives.
