Fewer weddings, more divorces: a look at Nös love life 2024!

Niederösterreich, Österreich - In 2024, fewer couples were able to take the move into marriage in Austria, while divorces in Lower Austria have increased conspicuously. According to the current statistics Austria, 44,924 weddings were recorded throughout Austria, which corresponds to a decline of two percent compared to the previous year. In Lower Austria, 8,445 marriages were closed, which corresponds to a decrease of 2.4 percent. It should be emphasized that Styria was the only federal state to have an increase of 2.3 percent in marriages, as reported.

A striking difference shows the divorces. While a decline in divorces has been recorded in most other federal states, the figures in Lower Austria rose by 4.4 percent to a total of 2,972 divorces. Throughout Austria, 14,344 marriages were divorced, which represents a general decline of 2.6 percent compared to 2023. This indicates an alarming development, since Lower Austria was the only federal state to experience more divorces in 2024 than in the previous year, such as Noe.n reported.

same -sex marriages in the upswing

In terms of same -sex marriages, an interesting development is evident in Lower Austria. 125 same -sex couples, including 38 male couples and 87 couples, married last year. At the same time, the number of registered partnerships has dropped by five percent nationwide. In Lower Austria, 332 partnerships were recorded in 2024, which corresponds to a decline of 15.5 percent. This also includes 25 partnerships of same -sex couples.

These developments raise questions about the future marriage and divorce landscape in Austria. While the weddings in general lose weight, Lower Austria stands out from the norm and confirms that divorce in this region is gaining divorce as a solution for many couples.
