FPÖ clearly wins: what the election victory for the region means

After the surprising election of the FPÖ and the difficulties of the ÖVP, the political mood in the Melk district remains tense. The FPÖ, under the leadership of Irene Eisenhut, emphasizes that it is willing to take responsibility for the topics that are important to people - including health, education and migration.

In another light, the ÖVP sees the situation. Despite the massive defeat of the election, the party leaders are trying to spread optimism. However, only around 200 officials took part in a recent video conference, in which Governor Mikl-Leitner and state manager Zauner took part, and many switched off again. In view of the broad dissatisfaction with the current state government, which affects more than two thirds of the officials, the mood is anything but rosy.

Georg Strasser, the district party leader of the ÖVP, emphasizes that there are numerous topics that would have to be addressed. He calls for an agreement to the Renewable Gas Act and wants to improve transparency in food. Despite the criticism of the state government, he assures: "I don't see a hangover mood and no whine."

The situation is also perceived differently at the local level. For example, Mayor Barbara Kainz von Pöchlarn points out that the FPÖ apparently appeals to the worries of the citizens. It emphasizes the importance of taking people seriously, especially with regard to topics such as impoverishment and education.

On the part of the SPÖ, the Ybbs Member of the National Council, Alois Schroll, announces that it will continue to work for health and energy. He stipulates that the focus is on the e-card when you visit the doctor. Ybbs Mayor Ulrike Schachner demands a joint effort of all political camps to overcome the division in the country.

The election result has left significant traces and fueled the discussion about the future orientation of the parties. The result is a clear order for the FPÖ, while the ÖVP has to deal with internal party problems and a change required by the electorate. The path until the next election will be characterized by uncertainty and the search for solutions. More information about the latest developments are Available here
