With the increasingly clear consequences of climate change, environmental protection in traffic is becoming increasingly important. The Lilienfeld district takes on a pioneering role. Above all, awareness of environmentally friendly driving is strong here. There are already 19 charging stations for electric vehicles in the district, and car sharing models are also available.

A particularly remarkable example of community mobility can be found in Eschenau, where the car sharing project was launched by the Biene association in 2021. Franz Rybaczek was the engine behind this idea and was committed to ensuring that electric cars can also be divisible in his community. "The car sharing company currently comprises 6 members. The recruitment of members is generally slowly, since car sharing is often only considered in the event of such changes in the life situation as in retirement or when deciding to buy their own car," explains Günther Buchner from the municipality of Eschenau.

The general demand for electric cars is growing continuously. Even if these vehicles are more expensive than conventional cars, interest remains unbroken due to state subsidies and lower operating costs. "In particular, the interest of companies in e-mobility remains high. However, the demand for private customers fluctuates a lot, depending on the available grants and offers from the manufacturers," reports Bernhard Schmal, managing director of the Schmal car dealership. In the past year, interest in electric vehicles was somewhat muffled, but the current development shows that a third of the buyers are now preferred to the purely electrical vehicles, while the rest either opts for hybrids or conventional combustion models.

In addition, the municipality of Eschenau offers taxi trips every Thursday afternoon after prior registration, which can be used for visits to the doctor or errands in the area. This further improves access to mobility in the region and at the same time makes an active contribution to reducing traffic.

The developments in electromobility are not only a trend, but also actively contribute to the achievement of environmental goals. The district sets an example with its initiatives and sets the course for a sustainable future in traffic.
