A special event took place last night in the large town hall of Passau: The city partnership between Passau and Krems celebrates its 50th anniversary. At this anniversary celebration, a delegation from Krems under the direction of Mayor Peter Molnar was present to initiate the longstanding friendship together with the Passauer.
The connection between the two cities symbolized by the Danube was recognized in numerous speeches. The importance of water as a lifeline and bridge between cultures was the focus of the celebrations. "The Danube not only connects our cities, but also our people," says a keynote speaker.

The celebrations continue in Krems today and tomorrow. Mayor Jürgen Dupper and several city councilors travel to the Lower Austrian city to a reception. This not only celebrates the connection between the cities, but also revived.
In the past five decades, the cooperation between Passau and Krems has deepened. The exchange of students, artists and entrepreneurs has contributed to strengthening cultural and economic ties. The initiative for the city twinning was launched by citizens of both cities who wanted to build a permanent friendship.
A highlight of the speeches was also the mention of the joint projects that were realized over the years. These projects include cultural events, common exhibitions and, last but not least, sporting competitions that promote the feeling of community.
The event in Passau ended with a cozy get -together, in which the guests had the opportunity to exchange ideas and make personal contacts. For the participants, this is not only a celebration of the past, but also a look into the future in which the partnership is still to be maintained and expanded.
"We are convinced that friendship and cooperation across borders are crucial for a common, positive development," said Mayor Molnar during his speech. This statement illustrates how important such a partnership is for the region.
