Investigations against Sub: Justice scandal unveiled after Aua lagy!
On April 4, 2025, the investigation by the Vienna public prosecutor's office against seven suspects of the federal security investment agency (SUB) focuses on. These investigations are related to the hay flight of the Austrian Airlines (AUA) from June 2022. According to Nina Bussek, spokeswoman for the Vienna public prosecutor, there is an initial suspicion, but the investigation must be waited for.
In order to promote the investigation, the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data writer were confiscated by traffic police officers three weeks ago by order of the Korneuburg public prosecutor. This measure was necessary because the SUB did not want to hand over the devices voluntarily. The passenger attorney Wolfgang List has also filed a complaint against the head of the SUB and several employees because he suspected that they hinder and suppress the judiciary.

The federal security office has the task of increasing security in air traffic through suggestions for improvement. This institution has a long tradition in the flight accident examination, which has been internationally anchored since 1944 through the Agreement on the International Civil Aviation (AIZ) in Chicago. Essential guidelines for this are defined in Annex 13 of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The national implementation of these international provisions is carried out by the Aviation Act. Austria joined the European Union in 1999, which required compliance with more detailed European processes. From 1999 to 2005 the flight accident investigation law (Flight 1999) was valid in Austria, which was subsequently replaced in 2006 by the accident investigation law. Since December 2, 2010, the EU Regulation (EU) 996/2010 has also been in force to investigate and prevent accidents and disorders in civil aviation.
The amended accident investigation law regulates which accidents and disorders are examined in civilian aircraft, as well as the powers of the examination staff. These thorough examinations should meet the security needs of the people who travel on airplanes.
In the coming days, further developments are expected in this case and that the legal questions are made to ensure the evidence. The events surrounding the haft of the Aua remain an important topic in Austrian aviation.
