Weleda, a well-known manufacturer in the natural cosmetics and natural medicine segment, has opened its new logistics complex in Schwäbisch Gmünd, east of Stuttgart. This extensive construction measure was planned and built with a clear focus on ecological sustainability. The overall project comprises three building complexes that are used for warehouses, logistics and administration.
The great advantage of this project is that a significant component of clay and wood was used in the construction method. In particular, the wood fiber insulation boards from Gutex, which are known for both their thermal insulation and fire protection, play a central role in the material concept. These particularly flammable and non -glowing plates are used in the new campus and also meet the required construction technology standards.
sustainable architecture and biodiversity
The usable area of around 72,000 m² was made efficiently: only 20% of the site were used for buildings and traffic routes. The rest of the area was converted into a species -rich landscape that includes orchards, hedges and perennials. This promotes biodiversity and supports local flora and fauna.
The architecture firm Michelgroup from Ulm describes the project as a "lighthouse project of sustainability". It combines economic, ecological and social aspects and serves as a showcase project for environmentally conscious construction methods in industry. The arrangement of the varying buildings is fan -shaped and the overall picture is rounded off by a glazed wooden bridge that connects the functional building with the high -bay warehouse. This blends harmoniously into the surrounding landscape.
Another highlight is the environmentally conscious energy supply of the complex. Photovoltaic systems were installed on the roofs and facades of the buildings, which together offer an area of over 10,000 m² for electricity generation. In addition, the heat and cold supply is ensured using a geothermal system with a reversible heat pump, which contributes to the CO₂ neutrality of the company.
award and innovative construction
The logistics campus also meets special fire protection requirements, especially with the in the middle of the functional building, which reaches a height of 24 m and meets the requirements of building class 5. Here a 60 mm thick insulation layer made of GUTEX pyroresist wood fiber panels was integrated, which is certified according to the standards DIN EN 13501-1 (flammable) and DIN EN 16733 (not glowing).
The consistently implemented sustainable construction and the skillful planning not only contribute to the functionality of the logistics center, but also create a building that is in line with the environment and the ecological conditions. This innovative architecture was not only awarded the DGNB pre-certificate in platinum, but also with the 1st place of the Polis Awards 2024 in the "ecological reality" category.
The entire Weleda construction project is an impressive example of how modern operating facilities and ecological responsibility can be reconciled. More information can be found in a detailed report on www.baulinklen.de .
