New wind in the Ostalb animal protection association: Melissa Baker takes over the helm

In the Ostalbkreis there was recently an exciting meeting of the animal welfare association, which will significantly influence the future of the association. A new board was elected at the annual general meeting, with the "Interest Group on Animal Welfare for all animals" with 100 to 86 votes received the majority. The new chair is Melissa Baker, who takes over the office of the outgoing chairman Jürgen Schneider. At your side, Dr. Ronja Kauer as deputy chair.

A total of 186 members had appeared for the meeting, which shows the great interest that prevails in the future orientation of the association. Two groups had applied for the leadership: In addition to the "Interest Group on Animal Welfare for all animals", the "Initiative Tierschutzverein 2030" was also in the race, whose representatives Dr. Annelie Völcker and Nadine were castors. The choice took place in the form of a block choice, in which both suggestions were at the same time.

renewal by young wind

The new chair and her deputy bring a breath of fresh air to the club. Melissa Baker and Dr. Kauer, both about 30 years old, have already gained experience in responsible positions. This was considered an advantage by Tanja Baker, the outgoing deputy chairman, because she appreciates the innovative strength of the two women. "We are young enough to tackle new things and learn at the same time to master the challenges," she said.

An important aspect that the new board members emphasize is increased public relations. They plan to improve the external impact of the animal welfare association through school visits, information stands and an increased media presence. There is also an “open house” in the animal shelter on the Litterhof on the agenda. Tanja Baker commented that this initiative could contribute to a better understanding of the work of the association.

digitization and administrative optimization

Another goal of the new management team is digitization within the association. Melissa Baker explained that modern technologies should reduce the administrative effort, so that the main focus can be more on animal rescue. In the first board meeting, which will take place in the coming weeks, the priorities and the exact course of these measures should be determined.

The former deputy chair made it clear that in the association between "cat friends" and "dog lovers" there was no great alienation. Before the election, the "Initiative Tierschutzverein 2030" made a statement that it was not planned to transform the shelter exclusively into a "cat home". The challenge of managing the stray cats in the Ostalbkreis is a well -known topic, which would also like to be addressed by the new management.

Mellissa Baker is optimistic about future cooperation and emphasizes: "I think we can smooth the waves. We all belong to the club." This positive attitude gives hope that, despite the previous tensions in the club, new synergies and a joint look into the future will be made possible.
