Coalition crisis threatens! NEOS vote on ministerial posts!
Wien, Österreich - In Austria, significant political course is facing ahead, since the Neos voting on the consent to the new government pact. Over 1,500 members who were previously registered take part in the vote. The key figures of the new government are Beate Meinl-Reisinger, who is intended as Foreign Minister, and Christoph Return, who should become Minister of Education. Josef Schellhorn was also nominated for the office of State Secretary for Deregulation. The plans were unanimously approved by the extended federal party board the evening before. If the NEOS base refuses to consent to the triple coalition, the ÖVP and SPÖ already have a plan B in store: a return to a coalition of two.
team compilation and government declaration
In parallel, the ÖVP its ministerial teams for the said coalition. Anna Sporrer, Vice President of the Administrative Court, is expected to become Minister of Justice. The government declaration is scheduled for next Friday in the National Council. While approval in the SPÖ and ÖVP is considered a matter of form, the result of the vote for the NEOS will be decisive: a two-thirds majority is required. There were intensive discussions about the ministerial posts within the SPÖ, but now the positions seem to be resolved. For example, Vice Chancellor Andreas Babler will lead cultural and sports resorts, while Markus Marterbauer is planned as the new finance minister.
The ÖVP relies on continuity and has made its personnel decisions in peace. Christian Stocker becomes the new chancellor, and significant ministerial posts remain unchanged. Preparations are in full swing and curiosity for official government formation is growing. The political landscape of Austria could soon be changed by the new alliance within the coalition, whereby a central focus is on efficient and effective government.
