Dachshund breeding in focus: highlight of the breeding show in Markt St. Martin
On Sunday, October 20, 2024, the annual dachshund breeding show of the Pannonia section took place in Markt St. Martin, which was dedicated to dachshund breeding. Around 20 dachshunds took part in the event, which not only provided an opportunity to check the quality of the breeding, but also acted as a social highlight for breeders and enthusiasts.
The event was organized by Öfö. Ing. Karl Wittmann opened the event and warmly welcomed the guests. In his speech, he emphasized the responsibility and dedication that every dog owner has for their four-legged friend. “It’s not just about breeding standards,” he explained, “but about the love for the animals.” These views are reflected throughout the event, which plays an important role for both the dogs and their owners.
Breeding standards and health checks
The dachshund breeding show was open to dogs aged 15 months and over and represented a crucial step in their breeding career. Particular attention was paid to the health of the animals, with a veterinarian carrying out the eye examination. Only those dachshunds that met the strict requirements of the breeding judges received breeding permits. This approval is important to ensure that only healthy and characterful specimens are used for breeding.
The diversity of the dachshunds was particularly impressive. Both short-haired and wire-haired dachshunds were represented in standard, miniature and rabbit sizes. This variety of types shows not only the breadth of the breed, but also the challenges breeders face in preserving the dogs' best characteristics.
Sociability and exchange are in the foreground
The breeding show is an integral part of the calendar for many dachshund breeders. It is not only a platform for checking breeding quality, but also a social event where breeders, dog owners and interested parties can exchange ideas. The community of dachshund lovers continues to be strongly supported.
“A life without a dachshund is possible, but pointless,” was often quoted as the motto, and it was reflected in the enthusiasm of the participants. Many dogs went home with positive evaluations, which was a sign of pride and success for their owners. The tradition of this important event will continue next year to breed healthy dachshunds and further strengthen the community.
