Federal Police stops smuggling: migrants arrested at border!
Hörbranz, Österreich - On June 27, 2025, the federal police in Lindau brought two migrants to rejection. It is a Turkish and a Tunisian citizen who tried to get to Germany for an unauthorized manner. The Tunisian was already known to the German authorities, while the other migrant did not yet appear in their data. These events are in the context of stricter border controls that have been carried out on all German national borders since September 2024.
In the night of Wednesday, a car with Berlin approval was stopped at the Hörbranz border crossing (BAB 96). The vehicle was occupied by three Turkish occupants: a 31-year-old driver, a 59-year-old passenger and a 30-year-old passenger. The driver and passenger had a valid residence or settlement permit in Germany. The 30-year-old initially only showed his Turkish driver's license, but was later able to present a passport, but did not have a residence permit.
smuggling and rejection
The 30-year-old had been smuggled to Austria for payment by unknown persons via Bosnia-Herzegovina. His father, the 59-year-old passenger, had organized the collection of his son, and both were reported for a help for attempted unauthorized entry. The federal police secured the father's cell phones and son. While these two alleged assistants were able to continue traveling, the 30-year-old was reported for attempted illegal entry and also came to the Lindau district court.
In addition, a 24-year-old Tunisian was checked at Lindau-Reutin train station. He showed a photo of an expired German toleration and turned out to be compelled. His asylum application was rejected in February 2024, and the proceedings were completed in September 2024. The Tunisian is now also displayed due to attempted unauthorized entry and brought to the Eichstätt deportation institution.
increasing controls and statistics
The system behind these controls is part of a comprehensive strategy of the German government to combat illegal entry. Since September 2024, 22,243 unauthorized entry have been found in just 140 days, and 13,786 people were rejected or pushed back without the necessary papers. A total of 365,891 unauthorized entry has been registered since 2021, with a decline in January 2025 to 5,147 entry compared to 6.906 in January 2024. This shows the efforts to limit the unauthorized migration.
The extended border controls that have been reinforced since the beginning of last week also require support from other units. Over 1,000 officials from the riot police were placed on the border to support. The German Union Group in the Bundestag calls for extensive rejections, including asylum seekers. According to reports, there was already a traffic jam of up to 25 minutes for commuters and suppliers.
The current measures aim to reduce irregular migration and increase security at the limits. The decisions about the extension of these controls, which are registered by March 2025, will be made in February.
