Emergency sleeping points under pressure: Cold aid for homeless in Innsbruck!
In Innsbruck, the capacity of the emergency sleeping points is increased in view of the increasing number of homeless people. The Red Cross has increased the number of beds in its winter lot sleeping place in the Arzl district by five to a total of 26 places. Stefan Biebel, head of the health and social department at the Red Cross Innsbruck, reported that the demand was extremely high: "We actually have to reject people almost every day because we simply have no more space." In December 2022, 361 people were rejected, which emphasizes the urgent need to cover the space requirement. In the meantime, the emergency sleeping points of the Tyrolean social services (TSD) in Innsbruck, Lienz and Kufstein apparently do not need any dismissals due to lack of space, according to the official statement.
Expansion of the emergency sleeping points
Thanks to a strategic expansion, the homeless people have a total of 130 places available in the cold season. In addition to the year -round emergency sleeping place in Innsbruck, which houses 90 people, the facilities in Kufstein and Lienz are active in the winter months. All additional places open on November 1st. Biebel emphasized the importance of donations to support the facilities. Furthermore, the social councilor Eva Pawlata explains that the emergency sleeping points play a life -saving function by offering warm and safe sleeping places and providing further social support and advice. The Emergency sleeping center of the Tyrolean social services recorded 20,000 overnight stays last winter. These emergency sleeping points are crucial to respond directly to the needs of the people concerned and also enable a long -term perspective on help. But with the upcoming winter, high demand is expected. The population is also asked to report emergency situations via the TSD cold hotline in order to coordinate help quickly, according to the reports by Tirol.orf and Tyrol.
