Swine transporter accident on the A9: traffic jam and chaos for drivers!

On Thursday morning, December 19, 2024, a serious truck accident occurred on the A9 near Brück in Potsdam-Mittelmark. A van loaded with living pigs came off the road for initially unexplained reasons, drove into a ditch and tipped over to the side. As a result of the accident, the highway had to be blocked several times. At the moment, only one trace of Leipzig is passable, which led to a traffic jam from the direction of Beelitz, in which drivers have to plan for around 30 minutes, as the Märkische Allgemeine Zeitung reported.

The 52-year-old driver of the pig van was slightly injured from the vehicle. The alarmed rescue workers, including the fire brigade and emergency services, took care of the surviving animals and provided them with water. However, some pigs did not survive the incident and were disposed of by the veterinary office. The property damage amounts to several ten thousand euros, which causes the incident to result in considerable economic consequences. The rescue work was monitored by the police, which also researched the cause of the accident.

additional accidents on the A9

A little later, on Wednesday, there was another incident on the same motorway when a defective tire of a truck burst between the large ball and Leipzig-West. In this accident, eight vehicles were involved in a collision, although three cars were no longer ready to drive and had to be towed. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the accident recording caused full traffic disruptions, which lasted until around 9:15 a.m. The total damage of this incident is estimated at around 45,000 euros, as the Leipzig Volkszeitung reported.
