Rapid Vienna brings top scorer Claudy Mbuyi from St. Pölten!
Claudy Mbuyi, the 26-year-old striker, has completed a move from SKN St. Pölten to SK Rapid Wien. The reigning top scorer in the Austrian 2nd league signed a contract that runs until the end of the 2027/28 season. No details were released about the transfer terms, but St. Pölten were originally prepared to ask for a transfer fee of 500,000 euros, with the agreement being just under that. Mbuyi wears the number 71 at his new club.
Mbuyi, born in Congo, began his career in France with FC Villefranche-Beaujolais, where he made 47 appearances in the third division. In the summer of 2024 he moved to SKN St. Pölten and scored an impressive 23 goals in 26 competitive games last season - 21 of them in the ADMIRAL 2nd league. Managing director of sports, Markus Katzer, was enthusiastic about the new signing's goal rate and his decision to join SK Rapid.
Positive impressions and medical check
Before starting training, Mbuyi had already successfully completed several performance tests. The medical check also went to his satisfaction, which makes him ready for the challenges ahead under the new coach Peter Stöger. He has already scheduled team training for Monday. Mbuyi is initially planned as an alternative for the center forward position. Under former coach Tanrivermis he scored 21 goals in 17 appearances.
The player himself is proud to be part of a “big club” like SK Rapid and is looking forward to the challenges ahead of him. It is particularly worth mentioning that Mbuyi was often seen at the Allianz Stadium, where he developed a friendship with Serge-Philippe Raux-Yao, who also advised him to make the move. The new coaching team is also planning further discussions about other candidates for the center forward position in order to strengthen the offensive.
Strategic adjustments in the squad
As part of the strategic realignment, the club has decided to abandon the previous 4-2-2-2 system. Instead, crosses should play an increased role in the offensive in the future in order to adapt the style of play. The coaching team would like to focus specifically on the strengths of the new squad and Mbuyi in particular.
