Österreich - An alarming test of the ÖAMTC about warning vests shows terrifying results: In an examination of 25 models, a large part of this important safety equipment is miserable. Only ten west met the required safety standards - a disaster for the visibility and safety of pedestrians and cyclists in the dark. The ÖAMTC study makes it clear: 15 of the tested products virtually no light and could put life in danger if they are worn in an emergency. The ÖAMTC technician Steffan Kerbl warns: "If a warning vest does not reflect as intended, the consequences in road traffic can be fatal!" These findings coincide with previous tests, where 30 percent of the warning vests examined.
An essential point is the quality of the warning vests, especially the models that have been ordered online. While all west bought in retail met the safety standards, 75 percent of the variants ordered online did not correspond to the standards. In order to protect themselves in road traffic, consumers should therefore make sure that the West "EN ISO 20471" for adults and "EN 17353" for children meet, such as emphasized. These standards guarantee that the warning vests not only have the right color - such as bright yellow, orange or red - but also offer sufficient reflective areas to be clearly visible on road traffic.
In addition, it is important to regularly check the ability to reflect on the warning vests. A simple method is to test the vest with a flashlight: it should radiate white from about three meters away. In poor reflection properties, the visibility is dramatically reduced, which can potentially have catastrophic consequences in this tragic thing. In the event of an accident, the lack of an effective warning vest can be synonymous with a serious danger to your own security, since a non -reflective vest is considered inadmissible even during traffic controls and can result in expensive punishments. Security in road traffic also begins with the right warning clothing!
