Fatal motorcycle accident in Lower Austria: woman dies after horror fall

A tragic motorcycle accident occurred on June 29, 2025, at 9:40 p.m., on the B49 between Hohenau and Rabensburg in the Mistelbach district, Lower Austria. A 28-year-old woman from the Gänserndorf district fell for unknown reasons and remained lying on the road. A driver following behind discovered the injured driver and alerted the emergency services, but any help came too late for the young woman. The emergency doctor could only determine that the woman died due to polytrauma. Amazingly, she was wearing a crash helmet when she fell, making the tragedy even more frightening.

The volunteer fire departments from Rabensburg, Hohenau and Bernhardsthal were responsible for vehicle recovery and street cleaning. Due to the rescue work, the B49 had to be completely closed in the area until 11:20 p.m. while a local diversion was set up. These types of accidents highlight the dangers motorcyclists face on the road.

Current traffic accident statistics in Austria

The latest figures from the Federal Ministry of the Interior show that motorcyclist deaths in road traffic are not an isolated case. From January 1st to June 22nd, 2025, 152 road users have already died in Austria, a preliminary figure that shows an increase compared to 2024 with 132 road deaths. There are also reports of a serious traffic accident on June 20, 2025 in the Scheibbs district, where a 55-year-old motorcycle driver ran into oncoming traffic after a curve and died despite immediate resuscitation measures.

The data on traffic accidents in Austria is recorded electronically by police authorities and regularly transmitted to Statistics Austria to ensure a better understanding of the causes of accidents. In the past week, a total of seven people died in traffic accidents, including five motorcyclists and an e-bike driver.

Distribution of traffic fatalities and causes of accidents

The distribution of traffic fatalities by federal state illustrates the dramatic situation. So far this year alone, 52 people have died in Lower Austria, followed by Upper Austria with 30 and Salzburg with 7.

Federal State Number of traffic fatalities
Burgenland 6
Carinthia 8
Lower Austria 52
Upper Austria 30
Salzburg 7
Styria 23
Tyrol 12
Vorarlberg 6
Vienna 8

The main causes of accidents that have led to an increase in fatal accidents are, above all, inappropriate speed and carelessness. This highlights the need for more education and preventive measures to avoid such tragic accidents in the future.

The sad events of last weekend and current statistics show how important it is to continually improve road safety and better understand the causes of accidents. This could help prevent further tragic incidents like the recent motorcycle accident.
