Train failures between Erfurt and Suhl: Bus instead of train from October 19!
In an important development step for the region, the passengers from DB Regio and the South Thuringia Railway will have to expect changes on the route between Erfurt and Suhl in the next few days. From October 19 to October 27, 2024, the rail connection between the Gräfenroda and Zella-Mehlis stops will be temporarily discontinued due to the DB Infrago track renewal work. This measure affects several regional train lines that operate the route.
Trains affected include the RE 7 from Erfurt to Würzburg, as well as the RE 50 and RB 44, which run between Erfurt and Meiningen. During this time, travelers have to switch to buses that are provided as a replacement for the train connections.
replacement traffic with buses
For the period of the block, a comprehensive range of buses between Gräfenroda and Zella-Mehlis is set up. Travelers can use bus connections or to Suhl or Arnstadt, especially in the early morning and late evening. In addition, specific stops, such as the Dörrberg and Gehlberg stations, are approached by separate pendulum minibuses. However, these minibuses do not take bicycles with them and do not offer journeys directly to Zella flour.
Passengers who want to travel from or to Dörrberg and Gehlberg should prepare to first take the bus to Gräfenroda and switch to the minibus there. These transfer points could claim additional travel time, so it is advisable to plan in advance and to plan any delays.
For questions and more information about the timetables and connections, passengers can look at the official websites of the South Thuringia Railway and the DB Regio. All the necessary details are also on platforms such as www.mdr.de find.
