Most expensive ticket in history: 460,000 euros for a parked Airbus!

Munich -A superlative parking ticket! A Russian plane has been parked at Munich airport for over two years and has now presented a shocking bill of more than 460,000 euros!

The story began on February 27th when the Airbus landed from St. Petersburg, just three days after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. German airspace was then closed to Russian aircraft and the plane had to remain on the ground - for a full 834 days!

Expensive parking fees add up

The Aeroflot jet, which initially caused a stir, was quickly forgotten, while parking fees continued unabated. Between 340 and 560 euros were incurred every day, and by October 2022 the costs had already added up to 70,000 euros. The silver-blue plane was last seen wedged against a fence at Terminal 2.

Now there is finally news! Bayerischer Rundfunk has confirmed that the long-term parker has finally taken off. The Airbus A320-200 took off for freedom in mid-June. But the plane did not belong to Aeroflot, but was rented from the Chinese company “CMB Financial Leasing”, which wanted its eight-year-old plane back so that it could be lent out again.

Shocking totals

Before being picked up, the plane underwent extensive maintenance and the Federal Aviation Office had to confirm that it was fit to fly. But the biggest surprise came with the parking bill: the owners had to pay over 460,000 euros to Munich Airport! These costs should be recouped quickly, because according to the aviation data provider “CH Aviation”, the monthly leasing rate for an A320 is around 240,000 euros.

On June 10th, the Airbus was finally allowed to take off for the Czech Republic. An end to the costly odyssey!
