Nuthe glacial valley.A 34-year-old man from Nuthe-Urstromtal is in the focus of justice after he had to answer before the Luckenwalde district court. Between 2018 and 2022, he was caught downloading and viewing child pornography on five occasions. In a single day, he saved an incredible 40 files on his phone and laptop! The defendant admits his actions, but emphasizes: “I have no sexual interest in children.”

The judge is unequivocal: “You have found a channel for your personal problems that is against the law.” Despite his admission of guilt and the fact that he now leads a well-maintained life, the seriousness of his actions remains undisputed. The public prosecutor explains that a total of 60 files were found, including images of real acts of abuse against children. “There’s no sugarcoating it,” said the public prosecutor. “It wasn’t comics or anything like that.”

Penalty and financial consequences

The court imposed a nine-month prison sentence, which was, however, suspended. “Basically, you are still lucky,” says the judge, as the penalties for such offenses were only increased in 2021. Most of his crimes occurred during a period that was still subject to the more lenient regulations. But that's not all: the man also has to bear the costs of a report worth 12,000 euros, which was necessary to evaluate the child porn files. An expensive sentence for a man who was in a “bad phase”.
