A soup that wrote history: the last pea soup distributed on the market!
A soup that wrote history: the last pea soup distributed on the market!
The traditional status of the officer candidate of the air base, who spent many years on the Christkindlmarkt in Fürstenfeldbruck pea soup, is no longer continued. This happens in the course of the move of the officers' school to Roth. The last edition of the popular pea soup only recently took place.
Since 2013, a total of 32,800 liters of pea soup have been spent on market visitors, which led to donations of over 140,000 euros. The collected funds benefited charity, including the "Aktion Brücke", the emergency room of the local hospital and food rescue projects. About 320 liters of the hearty soup were prepared per day, and the status was set up and operated by soldiers from the Bundeswehr.
last day of sale and commitment
On the last day of the sale, Brigadier general Stefan Scheibel and Mayor Christian Götz served the guests personally. Despite the great interest, no successor for the stand could be found, so this tradition now ends. The stand will be remembered for its excellent soup and his remarkable social commitment.
Similar initiatives offered by pea soup against donations are also available in other places. The Bundeswehr took part in the Christmas market in Flensburg for the 44th time. Under the direction of Captain to the Lake Leonard, pea soup is sold on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. on Nikolaistraße. The entire proceeds flow 100 % to charity in Flensburg and Glücksburg.
In the past 43 years, over 812,000 euros have been collected in donations. In 2019, for example, 34,000 euros were awarded to various organizations and clubs. What is new this year is that due to stricter internal requirements, no punch is offered. In addition, the Bundeswehr is asked to bring suitable containers for the soup to avoid the use of disposable packaging.
